Microneedling

Microneedling, or Collagen Induction Therapy, has been growing in popularity and for good reason - it works. Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that has its roots in dermatology but is strikingly similar to an ancient form of acupuncture known as seven star, or plum-blossom, needling (where a small hammer with a head of seven tiny needles was stamped along the skin.) We ditched the ancient hammer for a modern microneedling pen that stamps needles into the skin at a high frequency and at differing depths. This procedure improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars by stimulating existing collagen and elastin. Learn more - call today for a free telephone consult!

Do you use a dermal roller or a high frequency, automated pen?

We use an automated pen. The procedure we perform is not dermal rolling as dermal rollers enter the skin at an angle and can tear the skin rather than create precise channels.

How many sessions will I need?

Most people see lasting results after only one session- truly! But the best results are achieved after a series of at least three or four. Some issues, such as deep acne scarring, may require up to 6 sessions.

Microneedling After-Care:

  1. CLEAN – Immediately Following Procedure: Do NOT wash your face for at least 4 hours following your procedure- ideally wait 8 hours. This will allow the hyaluronic acid used to provide the best effect.

    • In the days following: Use a gentle cleanser and tepid water to cleanse the face for 72 hours post-treatment, and gently dry the treated skin. Always make sure your hands are clean when touching the treated area, and do not use a Clarisonic or other powered cleansing brushes for at least one week after your treatment.

  2. HYDRATE – Following your treatment, your skin may feel drier than normal. On the same day/night of your treatment you may use a thin layer of Aquaphor or Vaseline on your face (and use an old pillow case to prevent stains.) In the days following you may use a light moisturizer (Ideally as natural a product as you can find.)

  3. NO MAKEUP or CORRECTIVES– We recommend you do not apply makeup for 24 to 72 hours after the procedure. In addition, do not apply any makeup with a makeup brush, especially if the brush is not clean. ALSO NO corrective products (retinol, vitamin c or exfoliants) for at least a week.

  4. PROTECT – Immediately after the procedure, you should begin using a broad-spectrum sunscreen on your skin daily. We recommend a chemical-free sunscreen if possible. You should continue to use a sunscreen every day—not only the days following your procedure—as part of your skincare routine.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

Acupuncture as a cosmetic treatment is gaining popularity worldwide. Facial rejuvenation acupuncture appears to tone muscles in the face and neck and minimize fine lines and wrinkles. Many people opt for cosmetic acupuncture in lieu of injections like Botox because acupuncture is a natural, less invasive and non-surgical solution.

Already received Botox, injections or fillers and want to maintain your results? You could benefit from receiving maintenance cosmetic acupuncture in between your doctor visits. Keep reading to learn about the benefits of an acupuncture 'facelift' and how it works.

Potential Benefits of cosmetic facial acupuncture:

  • Tightens skin and muscles of the neck

  • Improves facial muscle tone

  • Reduces/tightens jowls

  • Lifts drooping eyelids

  • Increases blood circulation and oxygenation of skin, providing a more even skin tone

  • Reduces rosacea and acne

  • Lessens the appearance of visible pores

  • Maintain the results of your injections and fillers

How does cosmetic acupuncture work?

acupuncture-facelift-san-diego.jpg

Facial acupuncture appears to improve collagen repair and production in the face. Collagen is one of the major building blocks of your skin tissue; it helps give our skin strength and elasticity, and makes up three-quarters of the dry weight of our skin.  As we age, collagen in our skin begins to break down.

The insertion of acupuncture needles strategically placed into the surface of your skin helps to stimulate collagen and skin cells to repair the minor trauma caused by the needles. By placing the acupuncture needles into different areas of collagen loss, our licensed acupuncturist creates a micro wound in the skin so the body can naturally produce collagen to heal it.

Studies on facial acupuncture:

A 2011 study on the effects of cosmetic acupuncture on facial elasticity at Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gangdong found significant improvement in participants’ facial elasticity after receiving five treatment sessions over three weeks. More studies need to be done however facial rejuvenation acupuncture showed promising results as a therapy for facial elasticity.

A 1996 report in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture found that in a review of 300 cases treated with Facial Acupuncture, 90% had marked effects with one course of treatment (12-20 sessions). Both studies found improvements in tone and elasticity and further research was recommended.

What is a cosmetic acupuncture treatment like?

Your first concierge cosmetic acupuncture treatment with Husami Integrative Acupuncture in Cleveland includes a consultation of your overall health from Suzie Husami, licensed acupuncturist and herbalist. You will also be asked about any particular concerns you may have regarding the appearance and tone of the muscles and skin of your face and neck.

Your facial treatment will begin with an assessment of the region to determine areas that will benefit the most from increased tone or elasticity. We will gently insert 15-20 ultra fine, sterile, single-use needles into your face, head, and neck and ensure you are comfortable. These ultra thin needles are virtually painless and you may feel a slight tingling sensation. We’ll leave the needles in for about 30 minutes while you relax and feel stress melt away.

How many cosmetic acupuncture treatments do you need?

For optimal results, we recommend a series of facial acupuncture treatments twice per week for six weeks, followed by monthly maintenance treatments.
